The very first text message was sent more than 25 years ago. The message, “Merry Christmas,” was reportedly sent by developer Neil Papworth to Richard Jarvis, director of Vodafone. That short and simple message gave rise to the mobile communication technologies we see today.
Social media sites such as Twitter and messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are battling alongside short message service (SMS) for people’s attention on their mobile phones. Even at 25 years old, I believe the humble text has staying power and should not be overlooked when putting together your mobile communications plans.
