A Des Moines man “hijacked” a Des Moines Area Regional Transportation bus late Monday, forcing the driver “to drive downtown like a maniac” and threatening to kill police officers, police said.
Sgt. Paul Parizek, a spokesman for the Des Moines Police Department, said in a text message that 25-year-old Abraham Ramirez, of Des Moines, directed the bus through downtown Des Moines to the police station on East First Street where he was arrested “without incident.”
Just before midnight Monday, Ramirez boarded the bus at the corner of Ninth Street and Grand Avenue, police said. When he boarded, he told the driver, “Drive this thing or I’ll bust your head wide open,” according to the criminal complaint. Police said he threatened the driver again shortly thereafter.
